Kerrang, Slam Dunk festival and a whole lot of embarrassment.

Fresh after my previous post about my um, new found Canadian fame? you’ll never guess what happened? Leading rock magazine KERRANG printed a feature about me! Yes that has been intentionally written to over exaggerate the entire situation, but if you purchase this week’s Kerrang magazine you will indeed see a [very] small article with pictures about when I recently met Gerard Way and Dave Grohl! And with me heading to Slam Dunk Festival at the weekend where Kerrang have their own stage and tent I felt it would only be right that I did some kind of magazine signing session, you know, to give something back to the readers. Sadly the people working Kerrang at the festival didn’t agree after I started drunkenly screaming “WHERE IS MY SIGNING!!” at them. Although the people at Kerrang may not have known who I was, I was pleasantly surprised at how many people actually did! Through-out the day like 10 separate kids came up and told me they had me on tumblr/twitter/flickr and “liked my work” or “found me funny”. As weird as I found this I appreciated the fact that these people actually had the confidence to approach a complete stranger whom they’ve seen on the internet, so HEY to these people.
The festival itself had such a good vibe; amazing bands, amazing friends and amazing atmosphere. You literally couldn’t turn around without bumping into someone you knew or someone from a band. And with alcohol being such a leading factor in our day we successfully managed to accidentally offend as many band people as we possibly could. With the American band “We Are The In Crowd” being my new obsession they were first on the list, and after a while spent annoying their merch guy they soon arrived and I said HELLO. After saying this initial hello I soon realized I had absolutely nothing to say to this bunch of complete strangers I only discovered the week before so I did the obvious and told them how much I enjoy their record. They thanked me, and before the conversation could even progress I decided shouting “I DOWNLOADED IT ILLEGALLY THOUGH” would be the best possible response. Awkwardness now filled this little fan meeting as the singer tried to laugh the comment of and sell me the physical CD to which I replied “WHY? I GOT IT FOR FREE ON THE INTERNET DIDN’T I” – this time he didn’t laugh. I walked away. Next we noticed the singer from “A Rocket To The Moon” so Rachel decided to shout “WHERE’VE YOU PARKED YOUR ROCKET MATE?” at him. Obviously with him being from the states and Rachel having a strong Northern accent he didn’t quite understand and replied with “My records for sale over there”. Turns out it was actually the singer from “Cartel”. How embarrassing. Then I spotted a member from band “We Are The Ocean”, and as I shouted “IT’S HIM FROM WE ARE THE OCEAN” to my friends the young chap clearly misunderstood this as some kind of conversation starter and came over and said hi. Not sure what exactly to say Helen decided to ask him why his lady-like hair was so long and then shouted “SHUT UP” in his face as he mentioned he actually gets it cut every 3 weeks. I apologized and he quickly walked away. We decided to check out “The Starting Line” perform next, and you know when someone says “oh they were so boring I could have fallen asleep” about something? Well I actually did. Yes I somehow managed to fall asleep during their set whilst surrounded by 1 thousand jumping and singing! The rest of the day is a slight blur thanks to excessive amounts of free alcohol courtesy of the 3OH!3 tour bus, but I’m pretty such I had an awesome time.
