Just over a year ago 30 Seconds To Mars posted a bulletin out asking fans to send in photos of their face which if selected be worked into the artwork of their upcoming Album, so along with about 28 billion other people I thought why not and e-mailed a snap in! They weren’t particularly informative about the images specific usage so I just figured the outcome would be they’d merge thousands of faces into one big picture which would then complete the cover. Months passed and I never heard anything back, I convinced myself Jared had deemed me too ugly and that I hadn’t made the cut, so I sent myself into a state of complete insecure self-doubt and carried on living my life as this hideous beast that Hollywoods Jared Leto had decided was too disgustingly vile for his album cover. This however changed one morning when I logged into twitter and had an @reply from a lovely girl in California which made SHIT GET SERIOUS. One afternoon after going for “tacos” with her “bffs” at the “mall” and doing countless other American things she decided to pop into “walmart” for some “potato chips” and that’s when it happened.  The face she’d see daily on her blackberry from the amazingly talented hilarious absolutely gorgeous super awesome slightly weird british photographer she followed on twitter (me) was no longer restricted to the 50 pixel by 50 pixel avatar on her mobile twitter application, it was now staring right at her from the top shelf of the New Releases in the CD section!!

I WAS ON THE COVER OF THE NEW 30 SECONDS TO MARS ALBUM!!! They selected a variety of faces and made each one the actual full on album cover on tens of thousands of CDs in stores worldwide. People were messaging saying they’d bought me everywhere from Texas to Liverpool. It was all a little exciting, I felt like some kind of international whore. People I’ve never met in countries I’ve never heard of were all rushing to the shops and buying something that had my face on the cover!!! The album it’s self was all kinds of epic. That is honestly the only word to describe it. To this date the album has sold just fewer than 1 MILLION copies, now It’d be quite egotistical of me to single handedly take credit for this, as I’m sure one or two people did in fact buy the album solely for the music but you know, have you seen this face?

Anyway moving on, 30 Seconds To Mars were set to play a show literally down the road from me this weekend and I was pretty bummed because It was completely sold out and I didn’t have a ticket. Then I figured HEY I’m on the album cover, why do I need a ticket? And posted what could only be described as one of the most cringe worthy obviously desperate tweets of my life. The plan worked and Jared replied moment’s later saying I was on the guest-list! Job done. The next day before the show I spotted Jared in town and obviously said HEY and thanked him for the guest-list, I was quite put out he didn’t return the thanks to my oh so perfect face for helping him sell almost 1 MILLION albums, but hair colour aside, he was lovely. Must admit it was quite strange asking somebody to sign a picture of my face, but proved quite comical when I asked the guitarist Tomo if he’d like me to sign a copy for him. He said no. Before the show I met up with my friend Charlotte who “knows a guy” who can pull some strings, so we called him up and got let into the venue through the back before everyone else and watched the sound check and then securely got our place on the front row! The show as expected was EPIC and then during the encore Jared selected a handful of people to come up on stage and dance with him in front of the crowd of 10,000 people and I was one of them!!! Quite possibly one of the most surreal moments of my life stood on stage with one of my idols singing along to one of my favorite songs, all I could think was OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG and then the confetti cannons exploded the lights went down and it was over. Perfect end to a perfect day.
