Reading week without the reading

Okay so it’s “Reading Week” here in England for the majority of us university students, which basically means have a week off and do what the hell you want! My course requires no reading, so in my case it should have been re-named MAD WEEK OF ALCOHOL, STAKLING AND BEST FRIENDS. In case you’re slightly undecided whether or not to continue reading his tale of my week, it’s going to involve drunken memories, mcfly, the midnight beast, more mcfly, my chemical romance, lots of alcohol and my friends.

Kickin off with Friday, after the Travie Mccoy/Bruno Mars show on our way to the car park we spotted Bruno Mars stood at a window throwing mars bars out at the screaming fans, probably the cheesiest thing ever, we left before Travie started throwing Mccoy crisps out too (……get it hahaha) and headed to a hotel down the road where Mcfly were. We pull up outside the fanciest hotel in the city to have a peek in the lobby window and decide nah cba staying lets go and tried to start the car up, it didn’t start, we tried again, still didn’t start. SHIT! Security started giving us evil stares as we blasted Mcfly out the speakers and waited for the breakdown service. Thought it’d be best to push the car slightly out the way so the breakdown truck could get through, but shit was freezing outside and I aint the strongest so I walked over to a group of 15 Portuguese girls who I suspected were waiting for Mcfly and asked for some southern European elbow grease! Dougie from Mcfly came out during to see what the drama was LOLOL. Next day we popped over to the same hotel before our train to Leeds to let our inner teenage chavs out by drinking vodka out of a plastic bottle on the street and said hey to Mcfly. Decided to do the usual “lets lie in front of their bus as it tries to drives off” which is becoming quite the tradition! This time however nobody joined me, so I was just an idiot lay on the street and got back up with my head held down and said goodbye to friends and headed to the train station with Rach.

We soon arrived in Leeds and headed Nandos before The Midnight Beast show. Whilst eating we seen them walk past, it was cold outside and my chicken had just arrived so I decided not to nip out and say hello. After that we then did our usual hiding round the side of a venue drinking vodka where security can’t see us and was like oh that’s the midnight beast stood there and said HELLO. Stefan said he seen me eating my chicken, how exciting! After using a fake Nandos card, stamping it with our fake stamp, asking a random woman on the train to sign the fake card and then arguing with the staff in Nandos it was in fact a real Nandos card that entitled me to a free chicken I was happy it was getting the recognition it deserved. The show itself was INSANEEEEE, their live sets are all kinds of fun. Met them again as soon as they came off and was like wo0o0o0o, then left them to change/shower/sleepwithgroupies or do whatever bands do when they come of stage and got some more alcohol. When we arrived back they were being MOBBED by hundredsssss of prepubescent girls which was quite funny. Never actually realized how big they were, every time I’ve met them it’s been just been pretty much us so this was quite shocking! YouTube stats and twitter followers aside, they’ve gone from 3 dudes making funny videos in their bedroom to an actual credible band and earned a somewhat celebrity status along the way.

Jumped back onto the train to Manchester and snook into the hotel Mcfly and half our friends were staying in. The bar was the only thing I was concerned with and ordered a round of drinks; “Would you like to pay now or put it on your room bill?” the barmaid asked, er at £5 a bottle of beer I’ll put it on the tab. Big thanks to whoever was staying in room 214 and woke up to our bill under their door. Drunkenly met Danny in a corridor and had a chat as he sang a Peter Andre song. Next morning some of the girls stayed at mine and we woke up hungover and dirty and jumped in the car and met them again. This time more people joined in the lying down game with us! Then as we were driving off we noticed Mcflys tourbus at the lights up the road and did what all sane people would, FOLLOW IT! After an hour aimlessly tailing a huuuuge double decker tour bus we then drove right beside it whilst I waved at the driver as he laughed as last time he seen this face was when It was lay on the ground blocking him from driving away. We then realized we actually had shit to do today and turned round and headed to the My Chemical Romance show back in Manchester.

My Chemical Romance were as phenomenal as they were 5 years ago when I first seen them play this venue. “Emo” and everything else people think they stand for aside, this band changed my life and I’ll love them forever. Monday I spent the day with my loverly friend Rosie in her hometown, we shopped for props, covered her house in fake snow and helped her shoot a campaign she’s been commissioned for. Then her brother took me for a ride on his quad, I’m not a very outdoorsy person and have never been on one or a motorbike or anything like this, and sitting on the back of something that can go 0-100mph in seconds with the wind blowing in your face when you’re used to cruising the streets in the back of your mums Nisan Micra is slightly exciting!! Then headed back to Manchester for the The Midnight Beast show, got a lil bit drunk at the pub outside, said HEY to the band and went inside. The set was just as fun and manic as Leeds except for two things, at this show there were two girls that took the song “Lez Be Friends” a bit too literally and proceeded to lick each other’s faces off every time the word lesbian was sang, and this time round I decided I’d crowd surf. It was going great, until I completely fell through the crowd and onto the floor, I then realized the average age was 14 and regretted that move.

Next day went into town to meet the girls and as we were walking from the station spotted Pete Wentz get out a car, was like “err thats pete wentz” and suddenly I felt 15 all over and he was instantly my hero again. He was a lot smaller than I remembered him from the days I went to Fall Out Boy shows but genuinely lovely none the less. The girls all stayed at mine and we woke bright and early and hit the road for ALTON TOWERS!! Once we’d rode all the big rides, I cba’d with queuing for them again and our group of 10 split into 5 as I dragged the girls to the spinny swings in the kids section, equally best ride of the day. The drive home was pretty, listening to Taylor Swifts new album on repeat as I watched the sun set over the landscapes …untill everyone else started moaning “turn this depressing shit off” at me and the tranquillity was ruined.

To sum up, this has been a lovely reading week, and the only thing I have actual read was heat magazine. ps: too sleepy to proof read so sorry for spelling mistakes etcc x
